WASHINGTON, D.C. – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) awarded Three Rivers Corporation, Midland, Michigan, with their National Safety Pinnacle Award, the organization’s most prestigious safety award. Representatives from Three Rivers were on-hand during ABC’s 27th Annual Excellence in Construction awards banquet on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to receive the award.

As the recipient of ABC’s National Safety Excellence Award for 2014 and 2015, Three Rivers Corporation automatically qualified to compete for the Pinnacle Award. During the selection process, national safety winners in each category were judged on key areas, which included their continued commitment to jobsite safety, safety performance, and safety programs. In addition, members of ABC’s National Environment, Health & Safety Committee conducted interviews with the company president and safety director.

Three Rivers Corporation drives a safety-focused culture throughout the organization, and continues to invest in employee training programs to ensure each team member makes it home in the same condition as they arrived.

Three Rivers Corporation is the first company in the State of Michigan to receive the Pinnacle Award. “This is an honor to receive an award like this, we are proud of our work force and their dedication to safety.” said Paul Crivac, Safety Director at Three Rivers Corporation.

Jon Lynch will succeed Dan Kozakiewicz as president of the corporation effective May 8, 2017. Lynch will report to the board of directors, and Kozakiewicz will remain as chairman. Lynch was selected after a three-month search process with candidates from across the Midwest and parts of Canada.

Lynch will be responsible for establishing overall corporate objectives, ensuring profitable growth and fulfilling the company’s commitment to its customers and the community. The safety, marketing, operations, financial and business administration segments of the company will directly report to Lynch. He will also be responsible for project development and communications for the company.

Jon Lynch’s strength, experience and proven track record in leading complex organizations, managing change, strategic planning and execution — as well as his ability to bring people together to capitalize on opportunities — will be a great complement to the present Three Rivers management group.

“Jon’s belief that, at the heart of every opportunity lies people, convinced us he was the right choice for Three Rivers. Jon has a knack for putting himself in the shoes of others, addressing their needs and interests, not his own. He is a master at pulling people together for a common cause, bringing out the best in them and giving them the confidence to succeed”, said Kozakiewicz.

Lynch will act as a liaison between the board of directors, the management, the employees, clients and the shareholders, lead day-to-day operations and oversee the administrative and financial aspects of Three Rivers. He will also be responsible for protecting and promoting our position of leadership with respect to safety, quality, merit shop philosophy, employee relationships and excellence in delivering construction services.

Lynch’s experience serving the community in a variety of civic and philanthropic leadership positions will continue to be directly correlated to Three Rivers’ customer base. His passion, enthusiasm and engagement in community support will help Three Rivers advance its long standing commitment to Midland and The Great Lakes Bay Region.

For forty years Three Rivers has grown and built a reputation of being a company that our clients, employees and community rely on. We look to Jon Lynch to be a major contributor to that continued success.

Jon Lynch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning from Michigan State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Central Michigan University. He and his wife Tina have four children and reside in Midland.

Three Rivers began operations in 1976 when John Bartos, the company’s founder, wanted to make a difference in his hometown of Midland, Michigan. He might have been the only one who imagined 40 years later that the construction firm he founded, Three Rivers Corporation, would grow to employ nearly 400 people. The organization has been a leading contributor in the community and continues to make a significant economic impact in the region. Three Rivers continues to be dedicated to helping families, friends, and communities across the state of Michigan.

Three Rivers brings their unique expertise and a problem-solving mindset to every project by providing design/build, general contracting, construction management, and mechanical contracting services. Their 40th anniversary provides employees and customers an opportunity to reflect on Three Rivers’ cultural impact and influence on the construction industry.

“We are grateful to our customers for the opportunity to provide them with services and solutions,” said Dan Kozakiewicz, President of Three Rivers Corporation. “Our reputation is built largely on their projects, and we thank them for their trust and confidence.”

“Over the last 40 years, Three Rivers has remained strong throughout a constantly changing economy,” said Kozakiewicz. “I attribute our success to two things: First, to our employees, for the hard work and dedication they give every day. Without them we would not be who we are today. Second, we are never satisfied with the status quo. We continuously are looking for innovative ways to optimize our operations in every single area of the business.”

Three Rivers Corporation received a 2016 Excellence in Construction Awards and a Platinum Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) Award from the ABC Greater Michigan Chapter at the Greatness & Gratitude Awards Celebration on Thursday, September 8th.

The ABC Excellence in Construction Award seeks to recognize the entire construction team – construction owners, designers, and contractors–working in collaboration to successfully complete a project on-time, with exceptional quality, and in a cost-effective manner. Entries were submitted by providing a project narrative and detailed description of the construction process used with specific attention to new processes, time, and space restrictions, and special challenges faced to complete the project.

Three Rivers was honored for their design and construction of MidMichigan Health’s Gerstacker Building in the GC/CM New Construction over $10 Million category. At a local level, this recognizes and promotes quality workmanship by our very own merit shop contractors and their employees.

The Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Award, recognizes the efforts of ABC members that strive to achieve effective safety practices within their companies; the organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs. Additionally, Three Rivers provides contractors with a tool to objectively evaluate their safety programs, policies, procedures and training.

For firms exhibiting the highest level of dedication to safety, special Platinum recognition was presented. Firms receiving the STEP Platinum Award are featured in national publications and are eligible to receive the ABC National Safety of Excellence Award and will be considered for the industry-wide awards.

John Bartos, the founder of Three Rivers Corporation, received the Founders Award. This award is given annually to an individual that best exemplifies the philosophy of The Association of Builders and Contractors over a period of time in the advocacy of both Merit Shop and Workforce Training. John has dedicated his time with ABC for over 40 years.

A Midland facility has recently become recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program as the third only Silver Certified facility in the Great Lakes Bay Region. This certification is used to represent a facility that has utilized “best-in-class” methods and practices to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly facility, both during construction and in operation.

The facility, located on Contractor Drive in Midland and completed in 2013, was designed and built by Three Rivers Corporation for Fisher Contracting. Three Rivers worked closely with Fisher throughout design and construction in order to improve the finished building for end use in the fields of sustainability and energy efficiency.

The facility contains many exceptional features that save energy and resources. Chief among them is a system for producing energy from waste oil. After oil is used by machinery, it is combusted in a small boiler rather than transported off-site for disposal. This process produces enough energy annually to heat the facility for nearly a full winter. Another notable energy-saving feature is a geoexchange system. This system heats and cools the building using water that is tempered by the earth’s natural ambient temperature. The facility also minimized their water use by 32% through the use of “low-flow” fixtures and other means. In addition, the 50-acre site development was built using all recycled gravel, crushed concrete, milled asphalt and storm sewer pipe, structures and castings.

The LEED Silver certification caps a cooperative effort on the facility which is rooted in a rich history between Fisher Contracting and Three Rivers Corporation. The two organizations have worked together on projects dating back to the 1970s.

“We were proud to work with Fisher Contracting on a project that means this much to them and to Midland, and we congratulate them on this LEED Silver certification,” said Randy Sherman, president of Three Rivers Corporation. “They wanted to go the distance and do whatever it took to reach this milestone. Getting them there was an effort our staff genuinely enjoyed, and it’s wonderful to see the facility achieve this goal.”

Sherman also noted that the project prioritized the use of local businesses to complete construction, and that Three Rivers was honored to be a part of the community-based, team effort. In addition, about one-third of the materials used in construction were acquired within the Midwest – materials such as carpeting, concrete and steel were all made within 500 miles, helping to achieve LEED certification.

[blog-image src=”https://trccompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/fisher-pr-3.jpg” width=”300″]

“We thank Fisher Contracting for teaming with the many skilled tradespeople right here in our community,” Sherman said. “Electricians, plumbers, HVAC specialists … these were primarily local professionals, which is wonderful for the area. Fisher Contracting is invested in our community and it shows.”

“This was a big step for us,” Fisher Contracting President J. W. Fisher said. “We had been in our old building since 1957 and it had become an impediment to our growth. When we decided to build a new facility, it was very important to us that the work be done by local companies and local craftsmen. Just as it was important for it to be built in a responsible and sustainable way. Three Rivers was a natural choice, and they have built us a beautiful and environmentally friendly building. The LEED Silver certification is icing on the cake, and affirmation that we achieved what we set out to do.”

[blog-image src=”https://trccompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/The-Times-Lofts.jpg” caption=”The Times Loft Renovation”]Renovations began in April to restore the 31,325 square foot Bay City Times building, with the oldest portion originally dating back to approximately 1910. This adaptive re-use project will convert the old building into 31 residential loft apartments. The project will also include a 2nd story urban infill addition of 3,800 square feet on the southwest side of the site. The loft units vary in size from a 590 square foot one bedroom to a 1,625 square foot three bedroom unit. The project will include conventional apartments, as well as multi-level and townhouse style apartments. The styles of the units vary to reflect the historic components of the existing architecture combined with contemporary design. Many of the units will incorporate historic plaster ceilings with decorative moldings, historic quartered oak-wood paneling with leaded glass cabinet doors. Others units will feature a raw industrial feel with exposed cast in-place concrete beams.

We are working closely with The Neighborhood Development Co. team to turn their vision into reality for the Times Lofts in Bay City, Michigan.

The Times Lofts is pursing the Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program. The State Office of Historic Preservation and U.S. Park Service use this program to guide their design review processes for the credit. These standards are a series of concepts about maintaining, repairing, and replacing historic materials, as well as designing new additions or making alterations.

“We are incredibly excited to be designing and building The Times Lofts. This will create many local jobs through partnerships with subcontractors in our area,” said Randy Sherman, President, Three Rivers Corporation. “We look forward to collaborating with The Neighborhood Development Co. to deliver an urban space for the community.”
