Three Rivers Corporation has announced that it has earned a National Safety Excellence Pinnacle Award, Associated Builders and Contractors’ highest safety honor, and a  National Excellence in Construction® Pyramid Award for work completed on Sanford Hardware. Both awards were presented during ABC Convention 2022 in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, March 16.

The 2021 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum, and Gold status in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System in 2021. During the selection process, contractors were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations, and video interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Health and Safety Committee.

“Three Rivers is tremendously honored to be recognized nationally for our continuous emphasis on safety, and for efforts that helped Sanford Hardware reestablish itself in the local community,” said Jon Lynch, President of Three Rivers Corporation. “Safety is the top priority for everything we do at Three Rivers, and to be awarded Associated Builders and Contractors’ highest safety honor speaks to the dedication of our entire team. Furthermore, the success of the Sanford Hardware rebuild would not have been possible without the resiliency and commitment to the community exhibited by the Sian family. This project is a direct result of their efforts along with all project partners, funders, and subcontractors who helped make the project a resounding success.”

The Excellence in Construction Awards is the construction industry’s leading national competition that honors general and specialty contractors for world-class, safe and innovative construction projects from across the nation.

Reportedly built in 1885, the building that housed a general merchandise store and post office before becoming Sanford Hardware had been a staple in the Sanford community for well over 125 years. As a result of the flood and dam failure in May 2020, the original structure was destroyed.

Knowing the importance of Sanford Hardware to the local community, Three Rivers and its partners rebuilt this landmark business from the ground up to ensure the store and community could continue to support one another well into the future. To complete the project at an accelerated pace, Three Rivers secured donated materials, services, and priority scheduling from subcontractors.

“Creating a work culture that focuses on safety and total human health is a top priority of ABC,” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, President, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. “Three Rivers not only represents some of ABC’s top performers but also demonstrates the difference it makes when implementing the foundations of and daily conditions for world-class safety.”

Stephanie also commented on Three Rivers EIC Award, stating, “For over 30 years, ABC has been honored to award outstanding construction projects like Sanford Hardware by Three Rivers Corporation. Through hard work on this project, Three Rivers shows the value of teamwork, overcoming challenges, and creativity on the jobsite.”

The EIC award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, and safety.
